The first batch of Tesla Model Y L units has been handed over to customers across India through the company’s direct-to-consumer sales model. Tesla has also released images of the initial deliveries, reflecting rising customer interest in the new extended-wheelbase electric SUV.
Positioned in the premium segment, the Tesla Model Y L is priced at 6,199,000 rupees (ex-showroom). The company is also offering financing options, including down payments starting at 650,000 rupees and monthly instalments beginning at approximately 49,990 rupees, subject to approval.
The Model Y L is based on an extended-wheelbase architecture, measuring 4,969 millimetres in length with a wheelbase of 3,040 millimetres, which is 150 millimetres longer than the standard Model Y. This additional length enables a three-row configuration with seating for six occupants, featuring second-row captain seats designed to enhance comfort and cabin space. The SUV includes powered seat adjustment functions, ventilation and heating for seats, powered third-row seating, and dedicated rear air-conditioning vents.
Under the hood, the Tesla Model Y L is powered by a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system delivering up to 514 horsepower and 590 Newton metres of torque. Despite its larger dimensions and family-oriented positioning, the vehicle delivers strong performance, accelerating from 0 to 100 kilometres per hour in 5.0 seconds.
Tesla claims that the Model Y L offers a WLTP-certified driving range of up to 681 kilometres on a single charge, making it one of the longest-range electric SUVs available in India. The company also states that fast charging can add up to 288 kilometres of range in just 15 minutes under optimal charging conditions.
The cabin continues Tesla’s minimalist design philosophy, featuring a 16-inch central touchscreen that dominates the dashboard. Additional features include a panoramic glass roof, connected car technology, ambient lighting, a premium audio system, a heated steering wheel, and integrated streaming services.
In terms of safety, the Model Y L is equipped with nine airbags along with advanced safety and driver assistance systems, including automatic emergency braking, lane departure avoidance, blind-spot monitoring, and multiple advanced driver assistance features.
With the commencement of deliveries, Tesla strengthens its position in India’s premium electric vehicle market, expanding its footprint while catering to growing demand for long-range, technology-driven electric mobility solutions.
